(ONGOING) We can check basic vocabulary of several Mongolic languages here. This project was supported by Information Resource Center at ILCAA.

Project | 02 Database of Ainu texts collected by Suzuko Tamura

(ONGOING) This is one of the text database of the Ainu language. All texts in this database is collected by the linguist, prof. Suzuko Tamura. Prof. Osami OKUDA, Ph.D Miki KOBAYASHI and I add new texts year by year since 2014. This project is supported by Information Resource Center at ILCAA.

(DEVELOPED) This is an sound player application of smartphone/tablet. Using "number recognition system," we can listen to sounds of archived data through smartphone/tablet very easily. Only three steps to play!:

Project | 04 ILCAA Joint Research Project 2016-2022 Typological Study on “Altaic-type” Languages 

(FINISHED) This project constitutes a typological study of so-called “Altaic-type” languages (i.e., head-final/agglutinating/highly syntagmatic languages primarily spoken in middle, inner, and eastern Asia). We aim to suggest two main points, as outlined below: 1) the typological features of “Altaic-type” languages by analyzing the common morphological/syntactic structures found in these languages and 2) the suitable model of description for “Altaic-type” languages. We started the second phase in 2019.

Project | 05 Online text of Mongolic languages

(ONGOING) We can see several texts with grammatical glosses of Shinekhen Buryat and other Mongolic languages spoken in Inner Mongolia.

Project | 06 ILCAA Joint Research Project 2018-2021 Synchrony and Diachrony of Mongolic Languages: Internal and External Factors 

(FINISHED) This project aims to identify both the synchronic diversity and diachronic changes among Mongolic languages, which are widely spoken in inner Eurasia. We can find two factors of diversity among the languages: One is internal change, such as autonomous sound changes; the other is external influence, such as borrowing vocabulary or grammatical features from neighboring languages.

Project | 07 ILCAA Joint Research Project 2023-2025 “Failure” in Field Linguistics (jrp000285)

(ONGOING) In this project, field linguists share their own experiences of failures in their fieldwork. It has been recognized that these experiences of failure are not mentioned in papers. As a result, problems are less likely to surface and failures tend to remain within the experience of the individual. Therefore, in this research project, members share failure cases and discuss the causes and coping methods, so that similar failures can be prevented in the future.

Project | 08 ILCAA Joint Research Project 2018-2026
Archiving Fieldwork Materials of the Ainu Language: an Interdisciplinary Research 

(ONGOING): Coordinated by Prof. Osami OKUDA at Sapporo Gakuin University) This research project, focusing on Ainu, the language of the indigenous people of northern Japan, aims to reinterpret fieldwork materials recorded by a researcher over the course of a 50-plus-year period through a three-year discussion of the problems and solutions in the process of archiving such materials: “Researcher Archives”. We started the third phase in 2024.

(DEVELOPED): We set software keyboards for inputting Mongolian in Cyrillic, traditional Mongolian, and Latin alphabets on the internet browser. This project was supported by Information Resource Center at ILCAA. We recommend you to browse with Google Chrome or Firefox.
